Manchester United Injury List (2019-20)

Anthony Martial

The Manchester United injury list starts with Anthony Martial. Due to an injury Martial took in the Premier League match against Manchester, the 28-year-old forward will miss Manchester United's Europa League last-16 first-leg tie against LASK. According to Man Utd head coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the forward may not be even available for the upcoming match against Tottenham Hotspur. The France international slid into the goalpost in a face-to-face clash with Ederson. He just couldn’t reach the ball instead his legs rattled off the base of the post as he collided withit. Although Martial stayed on the pitch for another 25 minutes after receiving treatment in the goal mouth, he could not continue anymore and had to be replaced by Odion Ighalo.

Despite his injury, the Frenchman remained in high spirits and even joked with Bruno Fernandes while on the bench. He also shared a short video on Twitter that showed nasty looking wounds on both of his legs. Since Martial is a key player for Man Utd, his absence in the match against LASK would be a major problem for the club. Despite being a key player, he has not played much in the Europa League this season due to his injuries. The Frenchman has appeared only once for a full 90 minutes for his club and has often been replaced by either Greenwood or Ighalo – two other top scorers of Man Utd.

Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba has remained on Manchester United injury list from a year ago, when he received an ankle injury in a game against Arsenal. Although he returned for a game or two, the injury looked more serious than he could continue. So, he was sidelined again. In January 2020, the 27-year-old midfielder underwent an ankle surgery. He later posted a video on Instagram saying that everything had gone well, but he has not yet made his return, however, according to Man Utd head coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he’s getting closer and closer.

Solskjaer also said that although Pogba has not trained with the team yet, he will probably in the next week. The Frenchman himself is desperate to return to the team. He has only had eight appearances this season and has been for most of this period struggling with his ankle problem. There is also talk that Pogba could play for Man Utd first team against LASK in the Europa League on March 12 or against Tottenham in the Premier League. However with the new signee, Bruno Fernandes, at his disposal, Solskjaer should have the luxury of letting Pogba fully recover before rushing him back to the field. And the interesting thing is that according to ESPN, Pogba is looking forward to develop a partnership with the Portuguese midfielder instead of replacing him!

Marcus Rashford

A long-term absentee for Man Utd, Marcus Rashford has not played for his club since their 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in January’s Emirates FA Cup third-round replay where he received a back injury. According to Man Utd head coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, there is no definite date for the return of the 22-year-old forward, however, the Norwegian hopes that happens before the end of the current season. Man Utd boss also said that the scans of Marcus’ back have been encouraging and that he was working in the gym and in the pool and is moving around better.

Rashford has been suffering from back stress injury since mid-January. The bad thing about his injury is that it is more severe than it was first thought and could even deprive him the rest of the season. Rashford had scored 18 goals for the Red Devils in the current season before he was sidelined due to his injury. The 22-year-old has worked hard on his recovery and according to him, his recovery has gone well, though not well enough to see him on the pitch. The England international says he feels ’10 times better" than two or three weeks ago. Although there is still doubt whether Rashford would play in Euro 2020, the forward himself has said that he will probably do.

Lee Grant

Again Man Utd head coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, updated on his team injuries: due to an arm injury, Man Utd’s third-choice goalkeeper will be out for two or three months. He requires a surgery and some time for recovery before he could make his return. Solskjaer hopes the 37-year-old goalkeeper could return before the end of the season.

Grant, currently sidelined, has extended his contract with Man Utd until the summer of 2021. Before his injury, the third-choice goalkeeper only made two appearances for his club.
